What's with the Bear Picture?

The Dangerous Boy in Alaska picture is real, unedited, and taken by the Dangerous Dad on the Illiamna River in remote Alaska.  What an adventure.  We took a trip to Guth's Lodge at Illiamna in the summer of 2007 (We returned for another great adventure in July of 2009).  We were trout fishing at the time and both boy and dad were side by side reeling in powerful rainbows when we spotted a bear to our left about 60 yards away.  We waded further into the stream. Marty Guth, our guide, moved between us and the bear with his bear repellant (the largest side arm I have ever seen a man carry).  We caught and released our fish, skipped the picture taking of another pair of giant trout, and waded across the river and headed for the relative safety of the boat.  After taking a moment to reflect peacefully in the bushes, I turned back to the boat to find the Dangerous Boy standing by the boat, blissfully unaware that there was another bear swimming the river toward the island.  The "Hi Mom" picture was accompanied by Marty un-holstering the "bear repellant" and a swift entry into the boat and search for a new fishing spot.  You can read more about Guth's Lodge at Survivapedia.com.  Give Marty a call for the trip of a lifetime!  Tell them the Dangerous Store for Boys sent you.

Swiss Army Knives - Wow!

My latest discovery: the number of pocket knife offerings by Victorinox, the Swiss Army Knife folks. I was so excited I set up the Dangerous Knives section to highlight the variety. I had no idea. I'm sure it will excite you as well.

About the Dangerous Store for Boys
Posted by chris on Tue 07 of Oct., 2008 22:01 CDT

The mission of The Dangerous Store for Boys is to create a sense of excitement and adventure with a focus on "experiential play" for boys of all ages, providing creative toy, hobby, and adventure products. The tag line of "tremendous toys, tricks, tools, and treacherous activities for boys of all ages" sets our merchandising vision. The on-line store brings together exciting products from many sources and provides a community area with articles and blogs aligned with the "experiential play" theme. The products selected represent exciting offerings from well-known, reliable retailers so you can be sure you're dealing with an established merchant. We select products to highlight on the Dangerous Store based on their appeal to the adventurer in all of us. The selection criteria: its got to be cool, engaging, and hands-on (or leads to hands-on activity... like our selection of books, magazines, and DVDs). A friend described the concept as the "anti-video game" store. Many of the products we own or have tried. We're just getting started, experimenting with the affiliate marketing model while planning some products of our own (stay tuned for the Dangerous T-Shirt). By our affiliate relationships with a number of merchants, we have the flexibility to find the newest and most exciting products, we can turn on a dime and aren't encumbered by inventory. What value do we add? We scour the on-line world for exciting products and create an engaging on-line environment that helps you discover that perfect gift. There's no magic to the selection... it's stuff we want to play with, stuff we wish we had when we were kids, and stuff we wish we would get instead of another pair of socks.
